How to Find Your Utility Rate Plan

What is a Utility Rate Plan?
Rate plans, also known as utility tariffs, are the pricing structures set by your electricity provider to determine how much you pay for the energy you consume.
These plans outline the specific rates and conditions under which electricity is billed, such as different prices based on the time of day, total energy usage, or demand charges. Understanding your rate plan can help you better manage your electricity costs by knowing when rates may be higher or lower.
Important Note: Understanding your utility rate plan is essential for making the most of our Utility Rates feature in InControl. Where can you find your utility rate plan?
1. Online Utility Account:
- Log in to your utility provider’s online portal. Most utility companies have a "Billing" or "Rate Plan" section where you can view your current rate plan details.
- You may also find additional information, such as rate plan options and a breakdown of charges.
Some utility companies, like Southern California Edison (SCE) and PG&E, provide online tools to view and compare Business EV rates:
- Southern California Edison (SCE): Electric Vehicle Rates for Business
- Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E): Business EV rate plans
Important Note: We recommend connecting with your local utility company to view and understand your rate plans.
2. Look at Your Utility Bill:
- Look for a section labeled "Your Rate," "Rate Schedule," or "Electric Rate." It’s often found near the "Details of Your New Charges" or "Billing Summary" section.
- The rate plan might be listed as a code (e.g., TOU-GS-1-E) or described by name (e.g., "Time of Use" or "Flat Rate").
Refer to the example below to see how the rate plan name typically appears on a utility bill.

Calling customer service can be a quick way to get specific rate information, especially if there are multiple rate plans or seasonal changes.
4. For California locations.
If you're unable to identify your assigned plan, please contact support@inchargeus.com with your Account ID, Service ID / Meter ID, and a copy of your latest utility bill.
Why is it important to understand your utility rate plan?
Your utility bill may vary from month to month, so we recommend connecting with your utility provider or logging into their dashboard for a detailed breakdown of pricing, including your tariff and demand charge structure. We recommend reviewing your utility rate plan details periodically, especially when your energy needs change. If you have any questions about your rate plan, reach out to your utility provider for more guidance.
