Dashboard

InControl provides key sustainability metrics directly on your dashboard. By default, the dashboard shows data from all accounts and sites over the past 7 days. You can, however, filter this data by different periods, accounts, and sites for more customized insights.

Sessions Report

Within our Sessions reports, we present both Fuel Displacement (in US Gallons of Diesel) and greenhouse gas avoided in kg.

We are calculating these based on a USA average based upon average MPG of class 7/8 trucks, the mile equivalence between a new diesel truck and a new EV of equivalent class, and subtracting the carbon footprint involved in energy generation against that of the diesel vehicle.
  • Energy consumption = (stop_meter - start_meter) / 1000 or (current_meter - start_meter) / 1000 in case if stop_meter wasn't received.
  • Fuel Displacement = energy / 6
  • Green House = energy * 1.3124
  • Peak Power.Offered (actual maximum power) = MAX(power_offered) - new field to transaction table 0 by default representing imposed power/current limits from load management.

Fuel Displacement

Fuel displacement = Energy (kWh) / 6

The idea is we are translating in terms of distance equivalent

We are basing this on a 6mpg Class 7/8 vehicle to a 1kWh/mi for an equivalent EV.

Example: Fuel displacement, Gal. 3.52 = Total Energy (kWh) 21.11 / 6

Greenhouse Gas Avoided

GHG kg = energy (kWh) * 1.3124

This constant is derived from

22.46 lb GHG / gallon diesel / 6mpg = 3.743 lb/mi

0.85 lb GHG / kWh (USA avg) / 1mpkWh = 0.85 lb/mi

Net savings (diesel lb/mi - EV lb/mi) = 2.893 lb/mi

2.893 lb / mi convert to kg 2.20462 lb/kg = 1.3124

Example: GHG, kg 27.80 = Total Energy, kWh 21.11 * 1.3124

Caveats

This is assuming diesel engine, class 7/8 EV and internal combustion, and using a US average. Different utilities and states have varying energy mixed, with some dirtier and some cleaner than this average above.

Roadmap

Future enhancements we are considering include:

  • Weight the "dirtiness" of the kWh generation based upon the state and local grid
  • Include microgrid PV, battery storage savings in kWh GHG footprint calculations
  • Vehicle import and MPG equivalents, including gasoline, for various types of vehicles in the fleet
