Avoiding Times of Use Tariffs

Navigating time of use tariffs can be challenging, but with InControl, you can reduce costs without compromising on charging needs.

Delayed Charging: Your Strategy for Peak Hours

How it Works: We limit the power to chargers during expensive peak hours, ensuring sessions continue at a reduced cost.

Benefit: This approach maintains essential charging while minimizing your energy expenses.

Our analysts are equipped to handle the technicalities of setting up these rules. We can work closely with you to provide insights into the implementation process and together, we can develop the most effective load management strategy for your site.

Minimizing Demand Charges

Demand charges can be a significant concern, often resulting in unexpected costs due to spikes in energy usage during peak billing periods. InControl is designed to help you navigate these challenges effectively.

With our power limits, we help cap power usage and prevent unexpected spikes. Our system intelligently allocates power between charging sessions to make sure we never go over the power levels that you specify, which can significantly keep your demand charging under control.

In the example chart provided, the solid blue line shows how load management smooths out energy demand by reducing peaks and spreading usage over time. This helps keep demand stable and can lower costs by avoiding sudden spikes in energy use.

The dashed red line represents the original demand without any limits. Without load management, this business would be charged for using up to 150kW, but with load management, it only reaches 110kW, resulting in a 26% reduction in demand charges.

Setting Power Limits

Power Caps: We set limits on power usage to avoid unexpected spikes.

This same feature can benefit you in oversubscribed charging, where you have more charging power than energy from the grid or available. Instead of waiting for utility upgrades, we can establish a power limit to make sure you don’t throw a breaker and remove the limit when the circuit arrives.

Benefits of Power Limits:

  • Demand Charge Control: By capping power, we significantly reduce the risk of high demand charges.
  • Oversubscribed Charging Solution: When demand exceeds grid supply, we implement power limits to prevent circuit overloads, ensuring continuity until utility upgrades are in place.

These are just a few examples of cases where we can help you get around challenging issues simply through the InControl software. If there are any more sections you’d like to refine or if you need additional assistance, please let us know!
